BIOGRAPHY
Sophia Cutino (b. 2002, Los Angeles) is a documentary photographer, filmmaker, and journalist, currently pursuing a master's degree in journalism from UC Berkeley's Graduate School. Since receiving her BA in Culture and Media from The New School in 2023, Sophia has written and photographed for SFGate and Oakland North. Her debut photo book “Diaries of A Wet Bird,” published by Sunstroke Press in 2025, has been feature on DAZED, The Luna Collective, the Photo London Fair, and the Photo Book Journal.
Sophia previously produced, directed, and shot ten editorial fashion photo+video campaigns for brands like Dipped in Blue Bikinis, Double Soul, and Lolita Jade. She has assisted photographer’s like Ruben Salgado Escudero at National Geographic, David Hessemer for Nina Segal, and Ken Light scanning and editing film for his archive. Starting her career in music and concert photography, Sophia has shot for Machine Girl, Sugar Candy Mountain, Jeffrey Lewis, Ultra Q, and others, while also shooting music video BTS and cover art for Thom Ko.
Her work combines art and journalism for aesthetically impactful storytelling, crossing mediums of film and digital, still and moving. Her work explores coming of age, queerness, femininity, alternative subcultures, and the arts in the United States during an age of unprecedented changes of government structure and the threat of losing bodily autonomy.
